Front Brake Overhaul
My first ever brake maintenance
DIY Work
- Front brake overhaul
- Exhaust pipe heat guard bolt replacement
Since I bought the bike, the front brake was barely working. Even after changing the fluid, the lever feel didn’t improve, and on top of that, fluid was seeping from the reservoir — a hopeless situation.
I decided to go ahead and do a full overhaul.
Getting the pistons out was an absolute struggle.
Even using a piston removal tool on the caliper by itself, they wouldn’t budge at all.
I finally got them out by using the hydraulic pressure of the brake system itself.
I think the seals and pistons may have fused together.
Installed new pistons and reassembled everything.
The seals were so thin that assembly was tricky, and it took quite a bit of time.
I also overhauled the master cylinder side, and the reassembly was completed successfully.
