Clutch Area Maintenance
The clutch feel wasn't great, so I decided to replace some parts
DIY Work
- Engine oil change
- Oil filter replacement
- Brake fluid replacement
- Clutch disc replacement
- Clutch cable replacement
- Exhaust pipe #2 stud bolt replacement
- Caliper mounting bolt recoil insert
Preparation
To replace the clutch discs, I had to remove the exhaust pipes.
Broken stud bolts are something you commonly see online, so I proceeded with caution.
The rust was bad, but by spraying penetrant and loosening carefully, I managed to get them off without any issues.
Of course, I also had to drain the oil since the case can’t be removed otherwise.
Reassembly
Cleaned everything and installed new parts.
No photo of it, but I also replaced the clutch cable.
I’m not great at adjusting lever free play, so I adjusted it multiple times.
Recoil Insert
Despite torquing to spec as written in the Renaissa service manual, I had previously stripped the caliper mounting bolt.
I took on my first recoil insert repair.
I failed once and had to re-drill the hole, but eventually managed to get it to hold a bolt again.
Still, it felt like it would strip again at the specified torque, so I tightened it slightly under spec.
I learned that with my limited setup, it’s nearly impossible to hold a drill perfectly perpendicular, so for holes that need high precision, it’s better to leave it to a professional.
